Ahh, Frisco, the city of vintage cars and railroad memorabilia. There’s much more to this thriving suburban metropolis, especially if you’re a fur parent.
The public outdoor spaces give plenty of room for your fur babies to run wild. Some dedicated parks and restaurants excel at being pet-friendly. Whether stopping over or setting down roots, Frisco should be on your radar as a welcoming destination for all pets.
It’s not just Frisco that’s gained favor among dog lovers. Dallas was most recently voted among the most dog-friendly cities in the U.S. Less than 30 miles from Frisco, Dallas made the 24th spot due to its endless green spaces and low cost of owning a dog.
Going on vacation is fun. It’s even more of an adventure when you have your furry friends with you. Below, we’ll discuss five dog-friendly spots in Frisco.
Table of Contents
#1 Ruff Range Dog Park
On the south side of B.F. Phillips Community Park, Ruff Range is every dog’s dream. Welcoming big and small breeds, the dog park has an off-leash area, pavilions and water stations.
Its biggest upsell is a dedicated dog wash station. Those living in an apartment without a yard will know the frustration of finding a place to wash their dog.
Because the park is meticulously maintained, it is closed on Wednesdays. The water fountains are turned off during winter, so don’t forget to bring your own.
What we love about it: Most dog owners can’t get around to take their pet for a walk after work as most parks are already closed. As with all parks in Frisco, Ruff Range Dog Park opens 30 minutes before sunrise and closes 30 minutes after sunset.
Be mindful that Ruff Range is a public space, meaning no dog poop gets left behind. The responsibility is on you to take care of your pet waste.
Some Frisco companies offer commercial cleaning alongside their dog poop pickup service. This provides ample opportunity for dog park managers to collaborate with these businesses to ensure clean and poop-free parks.
#2 The Shacks Dining & Dog Park
An institution in Frisco, The Shacks combines drinks, dining and a dog park in one precinct.
Nestled under ancient oak trees, the area has six eateries strategically placed around a one-acre dog park. The alfresco dining patio provides a gorgeous setting for summer evenings under the trees.
Foodies will be spoiled for choice as the restaurants cater to all tastes, from burgers to seafood to street food favorites like tacos.
What we love about it: The Shacks host special events such as doggy adoptions and live music concerts. If you’re new to the city, it’s a great way of meeting the locals.
The park welcomes all pets as long as they’re on a leash and properly trained. Pet waste stations are provided. The stations help keep communal areas clean and odor-free, says pet waste removal company Scoop Soldiers.
#3 The Grove Frisco
A pet-friendly community, The Grove Frisco recently welcomed three businesses committed to keeping our furry friends happy and healthy.
Already home to two dog parks (Puppy Prairie and Gartner Bark Park), the area’s canine residents can enjoy miles of trails on a leash.
Pet Evolution, described as “Whole Foods for dogs,” has a mobile nail-trimming van and plans to host future adoption events and educational workshops.
What we love about it: The Grove Frisco is a one-stop shop for all pet care needs. From an animal hospital to pet grooming services, there’s no need to go anywhere else.
#4 MUTTS Canine Cantina
A franchise that has sprung up all over Texas, MUTTS is fast becoming a popular hangout spot for dog owners.
The dog-friendly bar and restaurant has an off-leash dog park where all four-legged animals can make friends. There are also separate areas designated for small and large dogs.
Best known for their peanut butter Pupsicle, the menu is a culinary feast for any dog. Expect Fido to be wildly entertained and impressed by the beef broth.
What we love about it: All franchises offer memberships with discounted annual rates.
#5 Frisco Commons Park
Frisco Commons Park is a popular location for large gatherings when the days become longer and warmer.
There’s a larger pavilion and two smaller ones, along with a paved trail. Affectionately known as Commons, the park is the proud home to the Veterans Memorial Plaza.
The 63-acer park has something for everyone, affording wide, open spaces for dogs and dedicated on-leash walking spots.
What we love about it: Commons is a multi-functional park. The kids will enjoy it just as much. Hope Park is a large playground with splash pads and a sensory area. This should keep the little ones thoroughly entertained.
